The birthdays are already in your phone. PokeeBee turns them into reminders.

PokeeBee is a birthday reminder app that reads the birthdays saved in your phone's contacts and the events in its calendars, and reminds you days or weeks before each one. There is nothing to type in, and no social network involved.

The Contacts & calendars screen, with a sync toggle, an optional Google connection showing People and Calendar connected, and a separate switch for writing occasions back to your calendar.

Which birthdays does PokeeBee find on its own?

Every birthday saved on a contact on your phone, plus the events in the phone calendars you choose — shared family calendars and subscribed holiday calendars included. You pick which calendars count. If you connect Google, it also reads Google Contacts, the "other contacts" Google keeps for people you have emailed, and Google Calendar, all read-only.

Do I have to connect Google?

No. The contacts and calendars on your phone are enough. Google Contacts and Google Calendar are optional extras, all three Google permissions are read-only, and you can disconnect whenever you like. Your Google data lists exactly what each permission reads.

How do I get birthday reminders without Facebook?

Keep the birthday where your phone keeps everything else: on the person's contact card, or in a calendar. PokeeBee reads it from there and reminds you ahead of the day, whether or not that person uses Facebook, and whether or not you do. A birthday saved on your own contact is yours; it does not depend on anyone else's profile settings.

Why isn't the calendar on my phone enough?

A calendar holds the date; PokeeBee plans around it. It reminds you 14 and 3 days ahead by default — or 30, 21, 7 or 1 day, as many as you want — at the time of day you choose, for every birthday at once. Then it helps with the gift. You can see the difference on your own phone: open a birthday in your calendar and look at which alert, if any, is set on it.

What about calendar events that aren't occasions?

PokeeBee sorts them. It guesses which events are occasions worth marking and which are noise, and when it is unsure it asks rather than deciding for you, so a dentist appointment never turns into a gift reminder. Anything you hide stays hidden, and you can undo it.

Does PokeeBee change my contacts or calendar?

It never changes your contacts. It writes to your calendar only if you turn on calendar write-back, and then it only adds the occasions you created in PokeeBee; it never edits or deletes an event it did not create. Your address book is never uploaded, and contact photos are cached on your phone only. The privacy policy has the rest.

When can I get PokeeBee?

Not yet: PokeeBee is not in the app stores. Leave your email and we will write once, when it launches. That is the only thing we use your address for.
